A New Company Building Under Construction In Germany
Tuesday 24, June 2008
With a present total staff of 240, of whom 170 are employed on a permanent basis, at its Essen plant Multi-Contact develops and produces high-grade electrical test accessories, stranded wires and plug connectors for solar energy systems (PV sector).
In August 2007 the decision was taken to relocate Multi-Contact Essen to a new building. An expansion of production and warehousing capacity is needed, since capacity at the existing location in the Hövelstrasse is exhausted and in particular can no longer meet the needs of the continuing boom in the PV sector.
The new building will be constructed during the next few months in the western district of Essen. The project is being implemented by the renowned Düsseldorf company SEGRO Zehnte Grundbesitz GmbH as investor.
The total area of the partly five-storied building for production, warehousing and office space is more than 11,000 sqm. The roof of the building - in keeping with style - is fitted with a 180 kW photovoltaic installation.
The relocation of the complete PV production facilities is planned to be finished before the end of 2008, and the whole relocation is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2009.
The principal strategic objectives behind the move are the centralization of PV cable assembly (ø 3mm / ø 4mm range and future types) and the development of new PV products close to the place of production. In the long term, MC Essen is to be developed into the business centre for electrical test accessories within the MC group.
