Quality Connections

Schalksmühle, 13 June 2008. Günther Spelsberg GmbH + Co. KG, a leading manufacturer in the electrical installation and housing technology sectors, and Swiss-based Multi-Contact, the market leader in electrical connectors, have joined forces to develop an innovative junction box for photovoltaic modules. Characterized by its excellent quality and extended service life, the so called FOXBOX junction box is the solution of choice for efficient, cost-effective series production of photovoltaic modules. The joint project will be unveiled at Intersolar, from 12-14 June 2008, in Munich.

FOXBOX is a new type of junction box designed to meet the requirements of fully automated module production. Robot compatibility ensures that, in a mass production environment, the boxes can be fitted quickly and cost-effectively. This not only enhances the reliability of the production process - it also results in a first-class product with up to 25 years' guarantee on the modules.

The junction box comprises two parts: the cables and diodes are housed in the top part. The bottom half is stuck to the module and the top part is simply clipped on allowing easy replacement (no tools needed) of the top parts when necessary. This simplifies, on the one hand installation work - for instance with difficult installation conditions on the roof - to the other, electro-technical laymen can also easily exchange components during service. Storage and logistics costs can be minimized, too, as only one spare part need be kept on stock.

The FOXBOX interior is also configured to provide maximum user-friendliness, reliability, a long service life and quality. The contacts in the two junction box parts are not soldered or welded together, the bands are connected solely by the spring force exerted when the top part is pressed onto the module. No further equipment or work are required to install the junction box.

"We are delighted to present FOXBOX, a new brand product, to our customers", comments Rainer Isenrich, CEO of Multi-Contact. "In partnership with Spelsberg, we have developed an entirely new type of module junction box, one that delivers a high degree of quality and reliability throughout its entire service life. It was to this end that we combined the know-how of two long established specialists in the photovoltaic market."
